When using fire extinguishers, we should understand their common differences. After all, there are many kinds of fire extinguishers, including water-based fire extinguishers, dry powder fire extinguishers, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, foam fire extinguishers, etc. You can know the difference between dry powder extinguisher and carbon dioxide extinguisher in advance, see what precautions have been taken when using portable dry powder extinguisher, and then find out the scope of application according to the type of extinguisher, so as to play a better role in extinguishing fire.
Dry powder and carbon dioxide extinguisher
Dry powder extinguisher: suitable for extinguishing fires in petroleum products, paints and organic solvents. Carbon dioxide extinguisher is suitable for extinguishing expensive instruments, equipment and archives.
1. Dry powder extinguisher: It is suitable for suppressing the chain reaction of combustion and fire fighting. It is also suitable for extinguishing liquid, gas and electrical fire. Dry powder has electrical insulation performance of more than 50000 volts. Some can put out solid fire. The dry powder extinguisher cannot extinguish the fire caused by burning light metal.
2. Carbon dioxide extinguisher: the carbon dioxide gas stored in the high-pressure cylinder is used as the fire extinguishing agent. Carbon dioxide will not leave any traces after extinguishing. It is suitable for fire-fighting expensive instruments, files and computers. It is non-conductive and suitable for extinguishing electrified low-voltage electrical equipment and oil fires, but cannot be used to extinguish fires of potassium, sodium, magnesium, aluminum and other substances.
Precautions for using portable dry powder fire extinguisher
1. When using the portable dry powder extinguisher, please carry the handle of the portable extinguisher and quickly reach the fire site.
2. Put down the fire extinguisher about 5 meters from the fire point. When used outdoors, it should have an advantage.
3. Before use, turn the extinguisher upside down several times to loosen the dry powder of the cylinder.
4. If the built-in or pressure storage type dry powder extinguisher is used, first pull out the safety pin, hold the nozzle with one hand, and press the handle with the other hand, the dry powder will be sprayed from the nozzle.
5. If an external dry powder extinguisher is used, hold the nozzle with one hand and lift the bail and hold the handle with the other hand, the dry powder will be sprayed from the nozzle.
6. When using dry powder extinguisher to extinguish dispersed liquid fire, it should be done from the side of the flame. Aim at the root of the flame, spray from near to far, strafe from left to right, and move forward rapidly until the flame is completely extinguished.
7. When the dry powder extinguisher is used to extinguish the flammable liquid fire in the container, it should also aim at the root of the flame from the side of the flame and fire from left to right. When the flame is ejected from the container, it should move forward quickly to extinguish all remaining flames. When putting out a fire, be careful not to direct the nozzle at the liquid level to spray, so as to prevent the impact of the dry powder airflow from splashing onto the oil, causing the fire to expand and difficult to extinguish.
8. When the dry powder extinguisher is used to extinguish the fire caused by solid substances, the nozzle of the extinguisher should be aimed at the place with intense combustion, and the left and right sides should be sprayed. Dry powder extinguishing agent shall be evenly sprayed on the surface of combustibles as far as possible until the fire is completely extinguished.
